Seven Great Days

Sunday
Head to the beach and learn to ride the waves on a surfboard, or at least go to Long Beach and watch. Maybe you’ll catch a world-class surfer demonstrating his expert technique. Start, stop or end at one of Allegria’s top-notch eateries for brunch, lunch or dinner. There’s no greater LI experience: Sun, surf, beach, eat.

Monday
Borrow a page from our “Dark Night” fashion spread and bring a little poetry into your evening. Gazebo Readings (Oceanside) is a relaxed, animated, outdoor series that draws writers and artists from across the island. Afterwards? Pop into Pop’s Seafood Shack (Island Park) for cocktails and ocean breezes.

Tuesday
Take advantage of local outdoor sculpture. Stroll through the gardens at Mather Hospital (Port Jeff) and see some of the best works on the island in plein air. After watching the sunset over the water, wind your way towards Toast Coffeehouse in the village and share wine and tapas.

Wednesday
Most art walks happen Thurs-Sun but you can get an advance on your next acquisition by visiting that buzzing local gallery you keep hearing about. You may run into the very artist whose work is on the walls and get the inside scoop on the process.

Thursday
Headstart on the weekend in the city and get into its bigger-than-life groove. Find out where Blow Up Hollywood is playing and get a dose of futuristic music. Afterwards? Stay at Midtown’s fantastic Carlton, linger over breakfast in the morning and bask in the unabashed luxury.

Friday
There is no excuse to miss live music tonight, no matter what your preference. LI is teeming with bands of every stripe with plenty of venues willing to host them. Singer songwriter? Jilly Talvé is probably playing somewhere. Jam? C’mon, the August moon is all for the Dead. Stellar GD tribute bands play out on LI all the time.

Saturday
Segue to the North Fork through Riverhead with a stop at Filling the Void, a music and arts festival at Vail-Leavitt Theatre. Or head south and make the Uncommon Ground show (Bridgehampton) your pit stop.
