April Cover Party

Jellyfish Restaurant, originally the grand Whitney Mansion, hosted Pulse’s April cover party. Attendees enjoyed a waterfront setting, signature cocktails, luxury raffles and an ambience set by Paul Brusger and his jazz ensemble in the wine cellar, which was once one of the most notorious speakeasies on the Island.

Gold Coast Cares for St. Jude

The Tanzania Watoto Fund is run by Stony Brook University’s International Academic Programs Office and benefits orphanages in Mto wa Mbu, Tanzania. Every summer, Dr. William Arens leads an anthropology-based study abroad program to visit and assist these orphanages along with clinics and schools. Fifty guests recently attended a benefit for the fund at Pentimento Restaurant in Stony Brook Village, featuring live African music, traditional cuisine and original Tanzanian artwork for sale. The Hampton Classic Horse Show

Despite a delay from Hurrican Irene, The Hampton Classic Horse Show was successfully held in Bridgehampton. One of the largest horse shows in the US, it featured a number of events with competitors ranging from youngsters to Olympic veterans. Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist McLain Ward won for the third consecutive year and record sixth time overall. hamptonclassic.com.

6th Annual Summer Concert

The 6th Annual Summer Concert benefiting The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research in Manhasset (part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System) was recently held at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park in Oyster Bay and featured legendary singer/songwriter Carly Simon. Over $1.2 million was raised, benefiting the institute’s research in lupus, sepsis, schizophrenia, Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s. feinsteininstitute.org.

2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk

AHRC Suffolk, a non-profit org helping those with intellectual and developmental disabilities, just held their 2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk benefit on Pond Lane in East Hampton. Around 200 runners participated—the male winner was Ben Tuttle of Eastport with a time of 16:46 and the female winner was Heather Wright of Westhampton with a time of 19:01. ahrcsuffolk.org.

LI Pulse Magazine celebrated the release of the June/July issue, along with Opening Day for Polo at the Park, at Bethpage State Park Polo Fields.  Over 300 of our fans joined us on a beautiful Sunday afternoon to watch an exciting Polo match, the first of the 2011 season.  Our auto concours featured All Star Limousine’s Party Bus and vintage Packard, Star Subaru’s “super cool” car, and Range Rover’s luxurious SUVs—one which delighted the crowd by dropping the ball for the start of the match.

Mather Hospital in Port Jefferson recently held a ribbon cutting for their new Toshiba Aquilion ONE 320-Slice CT Scanner. The most advanced CT scanner on the Island, it is able to produce 3D images of body structures in much less time than previous models.
