Retro-spa Polished pampers you head to toe

Author: Toni Munna | Published: Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Most day spas seem to be designed with soothing exotic decor, usually from the Far East or the tropics, highlighting their gift for knowing how to soothe and refresh the body and the soul. I love it. I think we all do. But if you are ever in the mood for something different, you have got to check out Bayport’s Polished Skin Care, a retro-style spa with a fun approach to beauty and relaxation.
Polished Skin Care has a cocktail theme for their treatments. Facials with libation-like names such as Classic Spa-tini, Pear-fect Bellini, and Atomic Tomato Cocktail, all offer effective, organic Eminence ingredients. My “cocktail” of choice was the theme for the day—the Mimosa.

The classic film, To Catch a Thief with Cary Grant, entertained me in the lobby waiting room. After changing into a robe and leopard print fuzzy slippers, I sipped a Mimosa and waited for my first treatment in the lounge. The decor would have been familiar to the likes of the Rat Pack. Very groovy, baby. The treatment rooms were the same, with animal print blankets and posters of glamorous 50s and 60s stars like Marilyn Monroe.

My massage was administered by the talented Crystal. She used Mimosa Champagne Massage Oil, which pairs champagne and Tokay grapes to moisturize and soothe the skin to a silky finish that does not feel greasy at all. My muscles and my skin felt “like buttah” when she was through with me.

Moving on to a Sparkling Mimosa Facial, Mary cleansed, scrubbed and massaged with yummy products like Coconut Milk Cleanser, Mimosa Champagne Tonique, and Tokay Ice Wine Masque. This is my second experience with Eminence spa products and I adore them. In addition to being all-organic, they smell and work great!

Finally, I relaxed in a massage lounge chair in a private cloth cabana for a spa pedicure by Jessica, complete with foot and leg massage. I selected my color from the Nailtini Bar, from which colors like White Russian or Sapphire Shooter could be “mixed.” As I nibbled grapes and mini-quiches and sipped orange water, it was easy to imagine I was a screen goddess from a long ago, more glamorous age.

Polished Skin Care owner Lisamarie Jaconi wanted to create an ambience that was not only relaxing but fun, with treatments that yielded results. There is no doubt she has succeeded! And check their website, one of the most fun I’ve come across! I’m listening to the music right now—Elvis and Frank, of course. polishedskincare.com
