Sandalwood & Sage Day Spa

Massapequa’s oasis for the mind, body and soul

Author: Toni Munna | Published: Monday, October 25, 2010

One of the last places you might imagine an elegant oasis for the mind, body and soul to be located is in a professional office building, but that is exactly where Sandalwood & Sage Day Spa makes its home. Decorated in muted colors with Asian influenced decor, this spa is a hidden treasure in Massapequa.

The “spa party room” is a beautiful lounge area with modern comfortable furniture, shoji screens and cushions. I relaxed, sipped water infused with cucumber and enjoyed the music. I then moved into a treatment room for the spa’s signature facial. Using products from the spa’s own Tru Self natural skincare line, Lillian gave me a facial that included a deep pore cleansing, exfoliation, two treatment masks, and a massage of the face, neck décolleté and hands. Lillian’s very light, nurturing touch and energy made this facial especially soothing, making my skin feel moist and happy afterwards.

The facial was followed by a massage by Ingrid, whose tool of choice is coconut oil. We chatted about the many benefits of this wonder product, both used topically and ingested. Ingrid gave me an amazing deep tissue massage, focusing on my particular areas of concern. By the time she was finished, every bit of stress had completely left my body.

Once my muscles were completely loosened up, we moved out of the treatment room to another area with cozy chairs and a wall-mounted waterfall. Ingrid placed a heated wrap around my neck and applied an Eco-fin treatment on my feet. It was my first experience with this alternative to paraffin that contains no petroleum products. She began with a warm footbath, followed by a citrus scrub. Lush ingredients such as soy, jojoba, organic coconut oils, shea butter, vitamin E and essential oils were warmed in a plastic bag in which my feet were encased, then wrapped in hot towels and tucked into heated booties. While waiting for the Eco-fin to work its magic (and it did—my feet were so smooth!), I nibbled on delicious snacks.

This was a marvelous experience at a spa that clearly believes in first-rate customer service. The staff was so friendly and did everything they could to make my visit special. The cherry on the top of this spa is that owners Patricia, Judy and Christine feel it’s important to give back to the community and they organize fundraising efforts for a variety of local charities on a regular basis.
