Music Joints July 2012

Music Under the Stars
(516) 797-7900, Town of Oyster Bay

Every year around midsummer, Oyster Bay remembers that it’s actually a fun and outdoorsy place to be, and then kicks off a moonlit concert series to celebrate. Music Under The Stars brings national touring acts and some local artists to parks and beaches throughout the Town of Oyster Bay. This is a family-oriented picnic style event series, so break out the lawn chairs and sun tea, and bring the kids.

Alive After 5
(631) 207-1000, Patchogue

If you’ve ever attempted to take Montauk Highway through Patchogue on a summer Friday, you have probably inadvertently become familiar with Alive After 5. The village closes Main Street and sets up multiple stages and vendor stands for a big musical block party on Friday nights. Look for it July 6 and 20, and August 10 and 17 from 5-9pm. Favorite local bands and acoustic acts perform up and down the street.

Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre
(516) 572-0348, East Meadow

This outdoor theater in Eisenhower Park features an extremely diverse musical series all summer long, ranging from classical to international, to touring country and rock acts. Renamed the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre shortly after Chapin’s death in 1981, it is an ongoing memorial to the singer-songwriter and his philanthropic work across Long Island. For a full schedule, check out the Nassau County Parks homepage via nassaucountyny.gov.

Pindar Vineyards
(631) 734-6200, Peconic

The intimate music featured at this green-powered Long Island winery is as friendly and accessible as the wines themselves. Pindar has live acts every Saturday and Sunday afternoon in the summer, culminating in a huge harvest festival at the end of the season.
