Spider Bite Wins F.X. Matt at TAP New York 2012

Published: Tuesday, May 01, 2012

Spider Bite Beer Company, established in October 2011 by Larry Goldstein and Anthony LiCausi, was the recipient of the 2012 F.X. Matt Memorial Cup, which recognizes “the Best Craft Beer Brewery in New York State,” at TAP New York. Paul Kretzer, assistant brewer, accepted the award for Spider Bite Beer Company, which poured four beers at the two-day, New York-centric festival: Boris The Spider, First Bite Pale Ale, Robert’s Spider Wee Heavy, and Eight Legged RyePA. The latter, released on April 25, is a 7.00% ABV IPA brewed with 30% rye malt.

Hosted at Hunter Mountain on April 28-29, TAP New York featured 70+ New York breweries, including seven from Long Island: Barrier Brewing Company, Blue Point Brewing Company, Great South Bay Brewery, Greenport Harbor Brewing Company*, Long Ireland Beer Company, Port Jeff Brewing Company, and Spider Bite Beer Company.

*Greenport Harbor Brewing Company released Big TIPA, an earth-grass, German-influenced IPA (the T in TIPA is Teutonic, referring to the Teutons, a Germanic tribe) brewed with Tettnang and Hallertau Mittelfrau hops, for TAP New York. The 9.00% ABV IPA is a one-off release.
