Hofstra Riding Hot Streak In NCAA Tournament

Published: Tuesday, May 22, 2012

The Hofstra softball team advanced to the Super Regionals in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history with big wins over UCLA and San Diego State over the weekend.
Hofstra, now 41-13, will face South Florida in the best-of-three Super Regionals in Tampa, FL.
Junior pitcher Olivia Galati (33-5) won her 31st straight start, two away from tying the NCAA record for consecutive wins, which according to Hofstra, ironically belongs to San Diego State head coach Kathy Van Wyk, who reached 33 wins for Cal St. Fullerton in 1982.
Galati also picked up her 1,000th career strikeout on the opening batter, becoming the first Hofstra player to reach that mark.
Hofstra will play South Florida Friday at 7 p.m. in Game 1, Saturday, May 26 for Game 2 and a third game is scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m. if it’s necessary.
