September selections for 92.9 & 96.9 WEHM New Release Tuesdays with Harry Wareing (airing every Tuesday night from 9-10pm) feature musicians from vastly different backgrounds who can all put together a good tune.

The new longplayer Lonely Avenue, with quirky pop/rocker Ben Folds providing music and English novelist Nick Hornby providing words is well characterized by the track “From Above,” which contains interesting vocal layers and treatments and expansive melodic arrangements. The proceedings show that Folds remains at the top of his game.

Former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant’s musical Renaissance continues with his newest solo album Band of Joy, the moniker of his new backing band. Its leadoff track “Angel Dance” has an appealing acoustic bluesy groove and Plant’s signature vocal stylings that wouldn’t be out of place in the Led Zeppelin III era.

The atypical rock band Guster just released their 6th album Easy Wonderful and the track “Do You Love Me.” Although the tune sounds like deceptively simplistic pop as background music, a closer listen reveals grand orchestral percussion and a buoyant, appealing melody.
