Art & Music | WEHM'S New Release Tuesdays

WEHM New Release Tuesdays

Author: Long Island Pulse | Published: Friday, January 01, 2010

May’s selections for 92.9&96.9 WEHM New Release Tuesdays with Harry Wareing (airing every Tuesday night from 9-10pm) features artists who tend to go against the grain of popular music trends.

Eclectic modern folkster/rocker Ben Harper’s latest White Lies For Dark Times features interesting dynamics from song-to-song with Harper’s assertive vocals being a constant highlight. Characteristically, the single “Shimmer and Shine” is punkish and aggressive but also thoughtful.

Quirky singer/songwriter Tori Amos dives deep in her new release Abnormally Attracted to Sin. Her sensual vocals are complemented by spare, contemplative orchestration as heard in the track “Welcome to England.”

Indie rock veterans Cracker display shades of jangle pop on their newest Sunrise in the Land of Milk and Honey and the single “Turn on, Tune In, and Drop Out With Me.” Here, modern blips and bloops meld with iconic folk-pop guitar lines.
