October picks for 92.9&96.9 WEHM New Release Tuesdays with Harry Wareing (airing every Tuesday night from 9-10pm) features the progeny of legendary musicians as well as modern, compelling musical statements.

The son of Paul Simon, Harper Simon, is forging his own musical path with a self-titled debut album and the single “Shooting Star.” In this initial tune, interesting country textures provided by a lap steel accent his strong, spacey, hooky progressions and his, dare I say, Paul Simonesque vocals.

Singer/songwriter Rosanne Cash, also part of a musical family has reemerged with The List, containing collaborations with many legendary musicians. The single “Sea of Heartbreak” features Bruce Springsteen whose distinctive croon augments Cash’s pure vocals and this spare country ballad.

Contemporary singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile comes on strong in Give Up the Ghost and the track “Dreams.” While containing standard country elements, the song has the aggressiveness of rock and stunning howling vocals that seem to pour from Carlile’s soul.
