5th Annual Artist VIP List: Jerelyn Hanrahan

Sketching and sculpture

Author: Long Island Pulse | Published: Saturday, July 31, 2010

The long-ago local returns, froth with eclectic impressions that result in supremely sophisticated sketches rendered in black ink on white paper. The timeless figures are confounding but far from confrontational. A broad span of works, drawings and sculptures alike, are convivial, sharing in them a celebration of man’s innocent absurdity. Each figure is a new beast, sinuous in rendering, meaty in presence, reflective and introspective, but having a very good time in his space. Pearls are a concurrent theme, one that underscores the sensual nature of the works. When stranded, the spheres create an elongated figure that is sinuous and reminds the viewer of the interconnectedness of time.
