Striving for cognitive dissonance, this artist reclaims devalued symbols by invoking the large scale and bold colors central to pop art. Guns are depicted on oversized panels in candy colors to call attention to their prevalence in society despite their obvious danger. By objectifying herself in her work, the artist forces viewers to rethink preconceived notions of women, sexuality, age and femininity. The result is an elevation of the familiar into newness through modernized styling of traditional icons. By using the medium of women (nail polish and lipstick) stereotypes are debunked. And weapons taken for granted, sex and handguns, are rendered larger than life.
